Success story

From the Olympic dream to reality!

“As a down-to-earth woman from Schönaicher who always sets her goals high and no matter what she tackles, she wants to finish it in the best possible way,” Elisabeth is known.

She discovered nature on a tricycle as early as 1988 - later she came to cycling through detours such as ballet, judo, swimming and motorcycling. Musically, she learned to play the flute and guitar, but she would have liked to play the drums, but then she took it up.

In 1993, in the third grade, she won a Germany-wide primary school painting competition with the motto: “What we like to do most with our friend!” Cycling, of course:-) she painted two cyclists from the front!

This already showed their affinity for two-wheelers back then.

When Elisabeth was discovered by my hometown club RSC-Schönaich during the game holidays in 1998, things went uphill quite quickly. Setbacks made Elisabeth stronger, even at the beginning of 1999 when she dislocated her elbow when I couldn't get out of the clipless pedals.

But already in 2000 she was able to finish in the top 15 at the German Youth Road Championships and in 2001 she came second in the DM road and DM cross champion.

In 2002 and 2003, as a junior, she won almost everything in road sports, including becoming German mountain champion each year.

After the 2003 Junior World Championships in Canada, Elisabeth stopped road racing with a heavy heart. That wasn't exactly what she wanted. Eating disorder and the influence from outside to complete normal vocational training became too great. She even dropped out of high school and learned how to build refrigeration systems. She enjoyed cycling in her free time.

In 2006, Elisabeth had the opportunity to take part in the 24-hour race in Munich, then bought her first MTB and incorporated off-road riding into her free time.

In the fall of 2007, friends persuaded her to do her first long marathon, so she ran the long distance in St. Ingbert and immediately became German hobby champion.

That's where contact with her first MTB team came about. Training pass, cool teammates brought a good winter, despite the master school and the job, she didn't let it stop her again and got a license for 2008.

In 2008 she became German MTB champion for the first time, even though the then newly crowned Olympic champion Sabine Spitz was also at the start. This gave a boost and the racing fever was back. The national squad took notice and so Elisabeth had to get used to the driving technique as the Olympic discipline “Cross Country” was getting closer.

She won many marathons until 2010, but her driving technique still gave her problems. It wasn't until she was allowed to start for the Sabine Spitz Haibike Team in 2011 that she took a break from work and found time to intensify her technical training. But for the Kop she continued to complete evening school for the building energy consultant with which she first became self-employed.

In 2011 she won the first Bundesliga race in the home region of the Swabian Alb Münsingen. She also came second in the DM MTB XCO and was able to record even more successes. But she also noticed her own hurdles in the team and she felt how important the environment is for success. In 2012, Elisabeth laid the foundation for the current team and the second company.

Elisabeth dealt with sales, marketing and team management. Won Notebookbilliger.de as main sponsor with the requirement to found a UCI team with 5 professional athletes. Elisabeth managed it with the help of friends. However, there were hard times ahead for the athlete. Nevertheless, Elisabeth became two-time German champion in 2012 and was able to win two more international medals for her athletes in her team: World Championship silver and European Championship bronze, as well as other national titles. Because her personal knowledge and the ability to motivate others and work in a solution-oriented manner are in her cradle.

The company strategy forced Notebooksbilliger to leave, but other long-term partners continued to stick with Elisabeth and so young, very warm athletes came along and together we formed the EBE Racing Team. The name came from her grandmother. “Elisabeth Brandau always has energy,” as she said.

Since 2013, Elisabeth has been giving kids the chance to learn something about the sport and to develop further. She was aware that athletes would come and go. However, she no longer wanted to undertake the task of managing her own UCI professional team again during her own sports career.

Her partners grow and trust the athlete, the everyone's team grows and this shows that the commitment was and is the right path. In this way, Elisbeth integrates herself more into the company and expands her knowledge in employee leadership, motivation management and, according to her motto: "It's better to be street-smart and clever than just school-smart and don't move anything in theory" in her seminars and speaker events.

In 2014, out of her own interest in health, she received additional training in the areas of health, sport and performance. Because she had no longer reached her peaks after 2012 and of course wanted to go back there. At the same time, her female cycle was out of harmony. When she was able to increase her performance again, that also happened

In 2015, she added the new role of mother. Nevertheless, she didn't lose sight of her goal. She ran her first race just 4 weeks after birth and reached the podium at the German Championships again in the same year.

Over the winter she combined more and more of the knowledge she had learned and in spring 2016 she became German champion in cyclo-cross and it was the start of a mega season! Despite qualifying for the Olympics in 2016, she was not taken to Rio, so she decided to expand her family and continue training as a naturopath during her second pregnancy. Because health, she learned, is the basis for all performance in sports and business.

The second son Alexander was born in 2017. With Marco by her side as husband, dad and mechanic, her passion has turned them into a small family.

Contrary to many recommendations and critical voices to resume sport, the years 2018/2019 were the best of her career to date.

Through an organized family and professional life and thanks to the sponsors, she made it onto the World Cup podium in 2019. So the goal remained the 2020 Olympics!

However, nothing went as planned in 2020. After a bad fall, it took a while for her to get back into shape and when the Olympics were postponed due to Corona and the Corona regulations also disrupted her family and professional life, it took a lot of strength and nerves. But in everything new there is also an opportunity and there is no such thing as giving up!

With another German championship title and 8th place at the European Championships, the Olympics are getting closer despite Corona. And in 2021, Elisabeth fought her way through despite her job and achieved her goal of the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo!

She also had to learn that goals don't always have the emotion you want in advance, so she teaches her athletes and clients to enjoy the journey to the goal more than the goal itself.

And as a tip: formulate your goals very precisely so that they come true as you imagine!
